KERA GOAL(s) 1.2 Students construct meaning from a variety of print materials for a variety of purposes through reading. 1.11 Students communicate ideas and information to a variety of audiences for  variety of purposes in a variety of modes through writing.
Objectives:

• Students will come to realize that springboards for poetry exist everywhere.

• Students will learn to identify common everyday sources as starting points for writing poetry.

• Students will learn to pare down prose for poetic expression.

• Students will develop a new appreciation for the components of poetry writing by experiencing the composing process themselves.

• Students will experience emotional and intellectual catharses through a non literal medium of writing.

• Students will gain the opportunity to write to learn about their own hidden yet emergent ideas and feelings.

• Students will gain the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities to learn how to write poetry through guided instructional sessions.

•  Students will learn to produce poetic forms that are publishable through an authentic writing experience.
