Processes: the Delivery of Student Models

Some or all of  the following processes were used as the basis for each of the student models contained within.  The final exam allowed no time for conferencing, of course.

Prewriting

• Journal entries on newspaper and magazine articles (current events)
• Journal entries on art transparencies accompanying works of literature
• Journal entries on school controversy
• Journal entries on selected c-span bytes
• Journal entries on literary topics in anthology
• Discussion and debates on journal entries
• Field trips to court houses, lectures
• Items from the text of motivational speakers
• Vital Speeches material
• Discussion and debates on the above journal entries

Note:  Journal entries are always completed with part summary, part reaction.

Drafting

• Sentence outlines
• Sentence-outline based drafts

Editing

• Peer reviews  (written and oral) class-roulette style
• Teacher reviews and conferencing
• Parent sharing

Revision

• Conferencing with teacher and peers
• Rewrites

Publication

• Classroom anthology
• Magazine contests i.e. Scope, React
• Newspaper editorials
