Introduction

Western Kentucky University's web accessibility policy(in place since March 29,2005) incorporates the web design industry's Section 508 standards and the university's general commitment to accessibility for all.

The policy applies especially to university personnel with official web design responsibilities,but we think it raises accessibility issues and solutions that any web designer will find it worthwhile to consider.

In particular, designers must take care that web site features do not require the latest versions of web browsers or plug-ins and that are compatible with assistive technology-for instance,audio screen readers for the visually impaired.
