Requirements for student advising
Welcome and thank you for your interest in doing research with me. The objectives I set forth for students are:
Objectives:
- To develop a strong concentration in the practice of statistics
- To be able to use statistical packages such as R or SAS
- To be able to use LATEX for producing slides, poster, and articles
- To be resourceful in using mathematics for deriving and understanding statistical results
With these objectives, students are required to do the following:
Requirements:
- Take 6 units of probability and statistics (i.e, Math 329 and 429 or equivalent courses)
- Learning R is of primary importance, then SAS and other statistical packages
- Learning Latex
- Students are expected to be mentored for at least two semesters.
For undergraduates, this means that students need to take with me MATH
398 in the Fall and then MATH 498 in the spring
- During the advisement period, students are expected to report at
least 1 hour per week. Students are expected to do boardwork.
