Most problems are worked on the computer using Mathematica.
Contact us
The action of AT&M is in the homework assignments. This is where you learn the most. The difficulty of the homework assignments ranges from easy to challenging. You may need to get help on some of the homework problems. If you encounter any problems while doing the homework email us. We try to get back to you within 24 hours. We expect that you will have questions and that you have to contact us regularly.
Communicating is an important part of the learning process.
Submitting homework
After completing the homework, you will save the homework as a file and submit this file to us for grading. Homework submission needs to be done as an email attachment. The instructor will grade the homework for correctness, completeness and for its writing. Each homework will get a number between 0 and 10 as a grade, where A = 9 (or 10), B = 8, C = 7 and so on. The average of the homework grades will be about 60% of the final grade.
We are trying to return your homework within 48 hours.
Tests |
In addition to the homework there will be a midterm and a final, which will be taken away from the computer. These account for the remaining 40% of the grade. The details of how to give and proctor the exams for students who are not on the WKU campus need to worked out on a case by case basis. For example we can fax the exam to you and expect you fax the completed exam back to us within a prior agreed time. If faxing is not possible we can use regular mail to send you the exam.
Time requirements |
Math 118 is a five credit hour course. To complete Math 118 course students who are enrolled on campus spend one hour a day in class. In addition they are required to work daily assignments, which take at least one hour a day to complete. Taking the course over the internet will take an equally large time commitment.
To successfully complete Math 118, you need to invest at least 10 hours a week (that is between 1- 2 hours a day) for the duration of a whole semester. It is absolutely import that you are self-disciplined and committed. If you let a month go by without doing much then you can not complete the course in one semester.
If you are not bound by the traditional times of a semester you may want to set up you own times. For example you could begin before the in mid-summer a month or two before the regular semester starts or you can stretch you course over the span of two semesters. We are willing to work with you in these cases. It may mean that you have to settle for an incomplete and then get a grade as soon as you complete the course.
