Introductory-level guide to philosophers and subjects. Contains general
essays that are easily understandable by the beginner, explaining what
philosophers stand for and defining each concept. There is also a comprehensive
general research bibliography at the end of each section. There are
author-title and subject indexes at the end of the book. This is a basic
place to start for research into the field of philosophy.

Indexes journal articles by name or by subject. There are no subheadings
or cross-references. The names and subjects are indexed together.

This journal and magazine index is a continuation of the Social Sciences
and Humanities Index. That index in turn continued the International
Index : A Guide to Periodical Literature in the Social Sciences and
Humanities, which is a continuation of the International Index to Periodicals.
The Humanities Index covers articles in philosophy, ethics, and utilitarianism.
Articles on epistemology are indexed under "Knowledge--Theory of." Individual
philosophers are also listed separately, and the philosophy of a subject
area is listed under that subject (for example, "Psychiatry--Philosophy).
This index is very easy to use, and is arranged in the same style as
the Reader's Guide. The Humanities Index is a basic starting place for
periodical articles.

This comprehensive index covers periodical articles using a subject
approach. There is a thesaurus of subject headings in the front of volume
one. There are also sample entries with explanations and instructions
inside the front cover.

This work is an annotated bibliography of published research in the
field. It can be used to find citations to other sources. Contains a
list of "abbreviations used" in front of book, and a combined subject
and person index in the back.

This directory is divided by country, and then is sub-divided into universities,
institutes, societies, journals, and publishers. There is an index in
the back of the book. The directory is updated every two years.
